Giants Lose 4-3 On Walk-Off By D-Backs

PHOENIX (CBS/AP) — Arizona got the leadoff hitter in the ninth inning and San Francisco had an open base with Paul Goldschmidt up next.

Instead of giving the NL RBIs leader a chance to end the game, the Giants decided to intentionally walk him and take their chances with Eric Chavez.

It didn’t work.

Chavez lined the first pitch he saw from Sandy Rosario in the ninth inning for a game-ending single, sending the Giants to a 4-3 loss the Diamondbacks on Saturday night.

“They executed and we were in a tough spot,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “You walk one guy to see if you can a double play ball but that ball got too much of the plate there. He (Rosario) has been throwing well.”
