GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) – A pass interference penalty against Bill Bentley set up Rashard Mendenhall’s 1-yard touchdown run with 1:59 to play Sunday and Arizona beat the Detroit Lions 25-21 in Bruce Arians’ home debut as Cardinals coach.
Jay Feely kicked four field goals and Carson Palmer threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to rookie Andre Ellington for Arizona (1-1). Ellington also had a 16-yard catch to start the deciding drive.
Matthew Stafford connected with Calvin Johnson on touchdown plays of 72 and 3 yards, and DeAndre Levy returned an interception 66 yards for a score for Detroit (1-1), which led 21-13 midway through the third quarter.
Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald played despite a sore hamstring but was unable to finish the contest. Detroit’s Reggie Bush injured his left knee in the first half and played only briefly in the second.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — Football season is here, and many stadium goers are breaking out the face paint. But between paying for tickets, parking and grabbing a couple of cold ones, the cost of actually going to a game has gotten much too pricey for many fans.
For the 2013 season, National Football League teams are charging an average of about $82 per game for general season ticket holders, up 3% from last year, according to Team Marketing Report’s annual “Fan Cost Index.” Tack on the average price of parking ($31) and two beers (at $7 each) and two fans will end up shelling out $209 on game day. And that doesn’t even include all of the money spent on tailgating before the game.
While ticket prices have climbed more than 50% over the past decade, parking prices have more than doubled, according to the index. Beer prices, meanwhile, have…

PHOENIX (CBS/AP) — Arizona got the leadoff hitter in the ninth inning and San Francisco had an open base with Paul Goldschmidt up next.
Instead of giving the NL RBIs leader a chance to end the game, the Giants decided to intentionally walk him and take their chances with Eric Chavez.
It didn’t work.
Chavez lined the first pitch he saw from Sandy Rosario in the ninth inning for a game-ending single, sending the Giants to a 4-3 loss the Diamondbacks on Saturday night.
“They executed and we were in a tough spot,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “You walk one guy to see if you can a double play ball but that ball got too much of the plate there. He (Rosario) has been throwing well.”
After Brad Ziegler (8-1) worked a perfect ninth, Willie Bloomquist opened the bottom half with a single off Rosario (3-2) for his third…

Name: Larry Fitzgerald
Hometown: Minneapolis, Minnesota
Team: Arizona Cardinals
Position: Wide Receiver
Over the years, I’ve encountered a lot of folks. I’ve met a number of people. Can’t say many are like Larry Fitzgerald.
Sure, he catches a trillion passes a year and stays a favorite on fantasy football teams. Commendable, but to me, the best part is his servant heart. I first heard the name when I was a senior at Duncanville High School (just outside of Dallas). Opened up the mailbox, and there was Fitz on the cover of my Fellowship of Christian Athletes magazine, rocking a Pittsburgh jersey. After reading his story, I knew he had been divinely placed on a platform, and would only excel from there.
In 2004, Fitz started the Fitzgerald First Down Fund, just one year after his mother died from Breast Cancer. It focuses on bringing awareness to the disease…
